Use PGN game analysis to improve your opening repertoire
Analysis becomes useful when it leads to a decision: correct a variation, explain a plan or review a forgotten line. ChessOpeningSmith brings your games together and runs Stockfish 19 in the browser to connect analysis with your opening work.
Create a free accountRecover the context before starting the engine
Import OTB games in PGN or bring together games from the supported Lichess and Chess.com sources. Check the playing color, time control and moves. Statistics by opening and color can help you select games to review, but cannot explain a mistake on their own.
First find where you left your preparation. Try to reconstruct what you were thinking during the game before looking at the evaluation. This helps distinguish a forgotten line from an unclear plan or a problem that arose much later.
Ask Stockfish a specific opening question
Stockfish runs locally on your device. Analyze a position, explore suggested continuations or analyze a sequence at your chosen depth. Speed depends on the device and settings: searches stopped at different stages can produce different results.
Ask a concrete question: does an exchange leave a pawn vulnerable, or does a move order allow a tactical reply? Compare your ideas with the engine’s variations. An evaluation drop identifies a position to investigate; it is not a complete explanation of the mistake.
Bring a focused conclusion back to the repertoire
If the problem concerns a position you intend to play again, add or correct the relevant branch in your repertoire. Explain what changes in the plan and practise that decision. You do not need to import an entire game into your tree to retain one improvement.
Engine analysis and repertoire training have different roles: one helps examine possibilities, while the other checks your recall. Game quotas, analysis limits and available profiles depend on your account’s offer; the feature overview lists the current limits.
Questions before you start
Does Stockfish run on a remote analysis server?
The application’s Stockfish 19 analysis engine runs in your browser. Account services, synchronization and game sources still use online services.
Is a game PGN already a training file?
It contains moves and may include variations or comments. To train an opening, select useful material in a repertoire, inspect it and practise the lines you keep.
